Our Values

PRACTICAL BIBLE TEACHING:
We teach the Bible in a clear way that leads to action, because truth transforms when it’s lived out.

COMMUNITY:
We were meant to do life together.

AUTHENTICITY:
Come as you are, nobody’s perfect, and we don’t pretend to have it all together.

DIVERSITY:
We celebrate the unique mix of people God has brought together and strive to reflect the beauty of our community.

GENEROSITY:
We give freely of our time, our resources, and our lives, because we believe living beyond ourselves is how we show God’s love.

People who were nothing like Jesus liked Jesus...and he liked them back. Every community should have a church like that.

Who We Are

We want to be an irresistible church!

People who were nothing like Jesus, liked Jesus…and He liked them back! We as a church want to reflect those characteristics of Jesus. Every community needs a church like that.

The Long Beach Church wants to be the kind of church that:

• Makes you feel welcome through every interaction.

• Allows you to feel comfortable being you – just as you are.

• Presents the Bible in a way that makes sense and can be applied in your daily life.

• Encourages you to grow in your own personal relationship with Jesus.

• Helps you easily connect with a smaller group of people and grow with them spiritually (when you are ready).

• Reflects and prioritizes our local community as we partner in the struggles, opportunities and objectives of the local area.

We want to be a place where people can belong. A safe place to rest, explore, search, and grow through relationship.

We want to accept people as they are and allow them to experience the grace and love that we received from Jesus and His mercy.

We want to be a church that intentionally creates a safe place for the “others”. This will be uncomfortable at times, it will be messy at times and it will always challenge the status quo, but that’s ok, Jesus’ ministry looked like that!

We must fight the natural gravitational pull of the church inward. We can’t circle the wagons and allow church to become all about us. We must stay outwardly oriented and focused.

We must have pathways to discovery, growth and discipleship.

We must create opportunities to connect and serve.

We must realize and embrace the reality that discipleship, change and growth happen in community, through relationships, not knowledge alone.

We must worship and follow Jesus. We don’t need to substitute that with worshipping the Bible. The Bible is an inspired tool that is to be used to help us follow Jesus, not something to worship. Knowledge informs us, guides us, but it doesn’t save us, only Jesus can do that.

"In matters of faith, unity; in matters of opinion, liberty; in all things 'love'."
Alexander Campbell

Our Heritage

Long Beach Church is a non-denominational church rooted in the early 19th-century Restoration Movement (also called the Stone–Campbell Movement). That movement produced groups such as the Church of Christ, Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, and the United Church of Christ. Long Beach Church traces its origins to the Churches of Christ branch of that movement.

The Restoration Movement sought to answer Jesus’ prayer for unity among his followers: “that all of them may be one” (John 17:20–21). Its founders hoped Christians would be united around core Scriptural teachings while allowing freedom of opinion on secondary matters, restoring the early Church’s unity. Over time, however, later generations sometimes drifted from those founding ideals and divisions arose.

At Long Beach Church we value cooperation with other believers to pursue shared goals while remaining an independent, local congregation. As an autonomous church, our decisions and direction are governed locally—no external body exercises authority over our church.

"We are Christians only, not the only Christians."
